Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

I moved to Tokyo in the early 80s, and a Japanese friend tried to turn me on to YMO. It should be exactly the kind of thing I like, but from that time to this, I've never been able to connect with their music. There are lots of interesting ideas and good playing, but for me, the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Part of it is the silly and almost ugly recitative vocals; like Kraftwerk's Computer World from the same year, I think this would be a lot better without the vocals. Not sure exactly what else it is, but this album and band is one of those I keep trying unsuccessfully to like. (Edited)

I can't believe this album is 40 years old, it still sounds so fresh. So many great sounds and musical ideas. Highlight for me is the hypnotic Light In Darkness but it all sounds good.

Very good listen. Synth pop in the same vein as Kraftwerk, but I think I like this more. A few more listens and it may find its way onto my chart.

YMO at their best! Progressive, etnic, spiced with some humor.
