Almost every ranking of Yes' albums sees Close to the Edge at number 1, and sometimes Fragile, but I feel as though The Yes Album is more consistent in its excellent song quality and no song is stretched out too long; they keep you entertained all throughout.

United Kingdom Yes
This very nearly took The Yes Album's spot, but, as I said, I consider that album more consistent. However, this album holds perhaps my favourite song of all time on - Roundabout, with several more amazing tunes. Filled with innovation and instantly recognisable Yes motifs, excellent song writing and amazing performances - especially my favourite keyboard player, Rick Wakeman.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars almost always takes Bowie's top spot - and it may be my nostalgia talking - but I always prefered Hunky Dory to its successor. Perhaps it was the more Beatles-esque feel, or what I thought was a greater consistency of good songs, but either way, Bowie's early music was amazing. Another wonderful performance from expert pianist Rick Wakeman, showing his diversity and Bowie's excellent songwriting and choice.

Being a pianist myself, I pay keen attention to good rock pianists and often find playing Billy Joel very entertaining. It isn't often you see a Billy Joel album in the top 10, but I just love this album all the way through. Great diversity among the track list and a sign of what was to come for Billy's amazing career.

A triple album, Harrison had to come up with a lot of material to make this stick, and yet, despite its length, it remains consistent in pumping out excellent rock tunes with a lot of diversity. My favourite post-Beatles album by one of the Fab Four, and the beginning of the best post-Beatles career of any of the original members.

The Kink's are often overlooked in regard to their influence over the music scene in the 60s and 70s, as they had some excellent songs and very successfully blended rock and more country-like genres. Most would say Village Green was their best album, but I prefer the consistency and more crisp production quality here. The combination of piano, guitar and vocals (with Dave's unforgettable harmonies) really picks this album up.
