not including any of the "Les Concerts Du Domaine Musical" albums because I've only heard those as part of a larger compilation and I just really don't feel like sorting out all the different individual volumes lol, but uh yeah pro-tip most anything you see anywhere with "Les Concerts Du Domaine Musical" or just "Le Domaine Musical" attached is bound to be ace.
anyway yeah 50s enjoy these are all good

So on my overall I have the remastered compilation of these various songs of the BaMbuti people, the original 2 albums that comprise the bulk of the material in that collection are essentially tied as my #1 album of the 50s but I do think I sliiiiightly prefer this one. but again the best way to hear these is via the remastered collection on overall chart imo. incredible music no matter which way you hear it though

this is the first recording done of Catalogue D'Oiseaux, and the first of 2 done by Messiaen's wife Yvonne Loriod. The one on my overall chart happened a little over a decade after this one, and while I do obviously prefer that one (you can tell she's had more time to sit with the pieces by the 70s, she lets them breathe a bit more) this is still very nearly perfect albiet for entirely different reasons. it's a faster-paced take on the catalogue, less use of the sustain pedal leading to what for some could feel like a tighter performance. this is sort of the archetype for the more uh "keyboard stabby" approach to the Catalogue that Håkon Austbø is generally praised for. the later recording is generally easier to find but you can listen to this recording as part of Yvonne Loriod's complete recordings with Vega compilation which should be on spotify.
