Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.6/100, a mean average of 75.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.0.

My 3rd favorite album is a actually punk rock trilogy spanning several decades if that is allowed - The Clash "London Calling" (1979) which inspired Rancid's "...And Out Come the Wolves" (1995) which inspired Agent 51's "Red Alert" (1998). Each stands as a monument in time.
The name Wolves seems like a reference to the line in London Calling. All three albums are 19 songs and all three are solid all the way through. While both London Calling and Wolves dabble in ska, Red Alert stays true to punk and heavy metal with topics like aliens, conspiracy, and government. All are great and I think they belong together.
Sure it isn't London Calling, but precious few are. The Clash wins in a photo finish since they came up with it first, but if a CD is being seriously compared to London Calling you know you have got something special. What I don't get is how Wolves is pretty much forgotten. Especially in today's single's oriented music world it is almost incomprehensible to hear quality tune after tune for nearly 19 straight songs (I would cut only two).
Fantastic bass work.
I like the comparison to London Calling, but also agree with the whole world's assessment that London Calling is a superior release. This one's pretty good and in the same direction but is is getting a strong B instead of the A+ of London Calling.
This reminds me of a sleepover I had when I was like 10 at a friend and an older brother had this record and we rocked out to it all night. I probably haven't regularly listened to this album since that like month time period we listened to it a lot, but still solid fun/party songs, at least that was my experience with them. Still very much dig these:
Roots Radicals
Lock, Step, & Gone
Time Bomb
Listed M. I. A.
Ruby Soho
Whenever you put it on you just have to get up and dance. Insane bass. A great album. These guys are awesome live too.
Rancid's mid-90s take on earlier "classic" punk influences including ska and reggae. Really solid and enjoyable album consistently throughout. Great bass work and I love the vocal styles. Probably see this rating increase soon...
85/100
