Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.6/100, a mean average of 78.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.6.

Come On Pilgrim grew on me a lot over time. I'd call it the Pixies' least accessible project. Black Francis's vocals are off the chain on the weirdness factor here, particularly on "I've Been Tired" and "Levitate Me." I love the frantic crushing ending of "Nimrod's Son," and the comparatively straightforward but delectably catchy "Holiday Song" and "Caribou." The only dud for me is "Ed Is Dead," but it's still perfectly listenable. A brief glimpse of raw genius that would be more effectively honed on the Pixies' following two releases.

Very enjoyable EP, I think that Caribou, Ed Is Dead, Nimrod's Son and Levitate Me are great tracks that show how good they had became soon after this one.

Good sound with relatively forgettable songs and a few standouts. Definitely indicative of the Pixies to come

Took a while for me to penetrate Pixies - but loved Caribou and Vamos almost immediately

Pixies come out of the gate strong with Come On Pilgrim, 20 minutes of in-your-face hardcore punk infused alt rock. Nothing mind blowing, but more than satisfying enough.

My favourite Pixies release, Doolittle is a very close second. Their early, a bit sloppy but undeniably brilliant songwriting was always close to my heart. Surfer Rosa has some weaker tracks while this is Pixies turned up to 11 all the way through, without a skippable note or lyric. And Caribou is the front-runner for the best Pixies song.

Solid EP. They would do much better in their following 2 albums though.

Hard for me to separate this from Surfer Rosa, as I grew up on the combined disc. But given the high esteem we all have for Surfer Rosa, that's just a testament to how similarly good this material is.
