It might be just me, but I've noticed a surprisingly strong handful of songs on mainstream radio released this year. There was a point from 2008-2012 where literally everything sounded the same, and I'm appreciating the variety this year.
Between Beyonce's stellar album at the beginning of the year, to 'Problem' and 'Chandelier' , it's been a major improvement.
I know 'Latch' was released last year, but it's also nice to see that on the radio.
I've been thinking about this for a while, but I only brought this up now because of a song I heard playing at University today, and I was slightly nervous to ask anyone what it was (I'm truly not too knowledgeable about mainstream pop anymore... I stopped caring about what was on the radio in 2010 or 2011), and it turned out to be the #1 song on the Billboard charts for the past few weeks, Rude by a band called MAGIC!. It take an overused formula and actually turns it into something pretty nice.
This might be because I tend to stay away from pop music as a whole, but it's just nice to have some interesting stuff back in the masses. Of course, there's still the usual garbage.. but you know.. it's improving.
Just thoughts. No one has to agree with me.
And in other news, the new SBTRKT album is enjoyable. ๐ _________________ Doubles & Conch

Very excited for this album. Is the stuff on the ep released earlier this year also going to be on this, or was it just kind of like a teaser?
Only the first track. _________________ "I feel like for the last two years thereโs been sort of a sonic evolution happening and Iโve been experimenting more and more."
It'll probably get buried pretty quickly in the 'What album are you listening to...?' thread, so I should state here that Homeboy Sandman's new album is awesome. It's called Hallways, it's on Stone's Throw, and you should listen to it very soon.
Also, Jo Johnson's Weaving is dope. Harald Grosskopf / Klaus Schulze-esque ambient synth arpeggios, but more sparse. Check it out. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
Hey random question, but does anyone know where I can listen to a legal stream of this album? The whole thing, but it doesn't have to be the deluxe edition.
It's not on iTunes or Amazon MP3 in the U.S.
I don't want to buy a CD and I don't want to illegally download anything. It's high up on the 2014 lists so I gotta hear it at some point! It will also be my first ever MSP listen.
