Tony Martin got robbed of a great time in Sabbath. Trex will talk more at length than I could.

Did he?!

Though I would argue that the "Robbed." Statement is incorrect.

As that would imply it's past tense.

It's not.

Okay...Let's start with the 1st thing.

He was the second choice.

The First choice was Ray Gillen from Badlands (Formed by Former Ozzy Guitarist Jake E Lee.).

There was 3 Problems with Ray Gillen.

1. He couldn't write songs for shit. (What actually got him kicked out of Sabbath.)

2. He had AIDS

3. HE TOLD NO ONE...NOT EVEN THE GROUPIES HE FUCKED.

So with that aside...Iommi took the option that he planned originally on The previous album. (That's why I believe the whole Seventh Star is not a Sabbath Album thing...Why Recruit Tony Martin for a Permanent role in Sabbath if the album wasn't supposed to be a Sabbath Album?) and decided to bring Martin into the fold.

The second thing was at this point The problems Ozzy and Iommi were at a fever pitch.

From Ozzy and Sharon calling venues and saying that Sabbath wouldn't show, to Ozzy almost celebrating the failures of Iommi' Sabbath after Dio Departed. Their spats were becoming more and more frequent even with one off reunions. The problem was that Tony Martin and that era of sabbath suffered the most from it.

The Third and Final Thing?

Dio Came back.

This caused a newer Rift with Martin and Iommi creatively as Iommi was very restless in what he wanted out of Sabbath and was taking Martin for a ride as a result.

In short....Martin is getting fucked 50 ways by ALL Major players of Sabbath.

Wait..."Getting Fucked..." As In Present Tense? You Might ask?

Yes.

Go to Black Sabbaths Official Website...and check out their discography.

Look whose Output is NOT Represented.

Not only Dio but the entirety of the Tony Martin Era of Sabbath.

Why is this?

Because during the 2000s Ozzy Sued Iommi for the rights of the Black Sabbath name. It was settled on Ozzy's Term being that Him and Iommi Owe 50 percent of black sabbath...and FUCK ANY OTHER BAND MEMBERS.

So basically if it doesn't have a combination of Ozzy and Iommi It's NO LONGER Considered Black Sabbath Canon.

Which also means...Other than Dio's Sabbath run and Eternal idol. Tony Martin doesn't have ANY of his Sabbath works on streaming.

Hmmm. I was wondering about this as I started the process of listening to Sabbath's post-Born Again albums. You can't even find cheap USED or NEW copies of Tony Martin's cds with the band on ebay. ๐Ÿคฌ

Sadly Sabbath Downshift into the Dad Rock Lane

The Eternal Idol by Black Sabbath

The Setting: Forgotten. That's what they were in 1987. An afterthought. The world had moved on.

The Listen: Yeesh! Black Sabbath โ€“ Black Fucking Sabbath!!! โ€“ make a generic, bluesy hard rock album. Say what u will about Technical Ecstasy and Born Again, but those records at least had a TON of personality. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
>

Of course this being Sabbath itโ€™s not a total thowaway. As Gowi mentioned, "The Shining " is a total banger and easily the best track here. As is "Ancient Forever" and the title track,. But the rest?! Skip City! โ€œNightmareโ€ isn't bad either I suppose, BUT it sounds like a relic from the cutting room floor of the Heaven & Hell/Mob Rules sessions. You can practically hear the poor little track pleading with Ronnie James to sing it!

Like my Celtics performance in the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals, I'm a kinda wonderin' if my mighty Sabbath are gonna be โ€œLost Forever.โ€

The Rating: ๐Ÿคฌ ๐Ÿคฌ

Hell yeah!!!! Love those picks. Very you! I have never heard that Van Halen album.

As for my top 10โ€ฆ I mean the top 10 are pretty solidly in their place up there with very little movement. Itโ€™s the ORDER of those top top ten to twenty that is tricky.

1. Reign In Blood by Slayer/1986
2. Prowler in the Yard by Pig Destroyer/2001
3. Through Silver In Blood by Neurosis/1996
4. World Downfall by Terrorizer/1989

โ€”โ€”Those top 4 are in a class of their own as of nowโ€”โ€”

5. NOLA by Down/1995
6. Filosofem by Burzum/1996
7. Misery Index by Assรผck/1997
8. Crack The Skye by Mastodon/2009
9. Master of Puppets by Metallica/1986
10. South of Heaven by Slayer/1988

I think thatโ€™s my honest top 10.

If you're referring to mine, only the one's where I've noted as such to the right. The rest are Metal in its variety of genre combos (that are still an extension of Metal as the main point of their "family tree") as its main genre(s), so perhaps a more comprehensive survey than a more "classic" or "standard" list (if that's what you mean) but hopefully that would be appreciated by someone looking to hear not just the standard classics like Black Sabbath (etc), but also the expanse of the genre and some of the best albums from a variety of its immediate offshoots. So for instance there's everything from the Drone Metal of Earth to the classic Thrash Metal of Metallica -- each very very different of course but nevertheless "Metal".

There are exactly ten GWAR albums listed in the BEA database at the moment, so I'd probably just refer people to that.
