Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Always interesting when you listen to a musician/vocalists 2nd band. It can be hard to separate them from what you've known. It's been a while for me to warm to this, probably due to some of the slower numbers. It's still got a lot a cranking heavy tunes, even the slower tracks are resonating with me more. I'm actually preferring this over most Slipknot now. It's a lot better than I'd initially thought.
