Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.2/100, a mean average of 79.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.9.

Still quite garage raw in sound. Slight shades of the early punk of The Buzzcocks coming through on some tracks. Still fucking great for a two piece. The last album before they became very polished with 'Elephant'

Nowhere near as consistent as Elephant, far too many meh tracks that sound too similar to each other, but you could tell they were on to something special here. My favourites are Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground, Fell In Love With A Girl, Expecting and Offend In Every Way.

A pretty good record with a few standout tracks but it does feel a little inconsistent. Their style is just starting to come together on here but I don't think it is fully formed yet. We get small glimpses at the hooks and infectious songs we will be treated to later in their career but the music feels a bit rough and unfinished on this release. You can still get a lot of enjoyment out of the work on here however and that is mainly due to Jack White and his great performances. Overall, this isn't my favourite album and it is patchy in places but it is still fun.

White Stripes is a problematic band for me as I cannot get into the heart of their matter. Their music is quite dark and even noisy and that is not a thing that makes me dig this album. Not a bad album but Jack White should have used more chords and rhythmic variations to make this album grab me. A big monotonous sonically. I liked Elephant much more.

This was their best effort up to that point. Then, Elephant happened.
