Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.6/100, a mean average of 67.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.3.

Começa muito forte, mas perde um pouco do encanto. Tudo salva na ultima faixa.

Good production, but completely generic. Its hard to say it out loud ... but St. Anger had better songwriting and was more interesting. Everything sounds a bit the same, they reapplied the "Death Magnetic Formula" but the good songs where already on Death Magnetic.

Murder One is a nice tribute, but in the end also sounds like all the others songs of the record.

Its not a bad record, but compared with all previous Metallica records the least interesting.
Not one riff sticks. Not one solo is outstanding.

The standards might be high, but its like the leftovers of the Death Magnetic album.

An improvement on Lulu but like most Metallica albums it's overlong at 77 minutes although there's no obvious weak tracks to drop

I heard a buddy of mine, who didn't like this album, say that there were only two good songs on this album, and both of them were Spit Out The Bone

Epic comeback after 8 years! I have no idea, why it's ratings are so low. Spit Out The Bone is probably the best Metallica song since Justice/Black Album era. Hardwired is too short, but awesome; Moth into Flame and Dream no More also have that heavy Metallica feel. Hope, that new album will be released for not so long.

A great comeback for Metallica. Before this album, I believed Metallica was completely burnt out musically. They hadn't released a worthwhile listen in 26 years, but I was very excited for this album nonetheless, and it was totally worth it. With this album and its accompanying tour, Metallica proved that they could reconquer the metal world, if properly motivated that is. It's not a revolutionary metal album my any means, but it starts and finishes strong, and has a few memorable enough highlights that will have you coming back every now and then.

For the first part of the album 9,5 / 10, a set of 6 excellent songs, the best that Metallica have done in the last 20 years. Only the weak solos of Hammett are here bad.
The second part is not so successful, 8.5 / 10. Hammett's solos remain weak, lars's drumming becomes annoying ... yet a great album that surprised me a lot, overall 9/10.

Was pretty surprised at this record. I was glad to see Metallica going back to the thrash roots. While it's no Master of Puppets but there are some great tracks that provide the fury reminiscent of that time.
