Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.4/100, a mean average of 69.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 22.0.

It makes more sense if you imagine this is the background soundtrack to a horror movie, or more likely a homemade YouTube horror video series. Still can't say it's real good, but it makes more sense. In that way, it's got some moments of" interesting" noise - most tracks are as disconcerting as the radio crackling or Pyramid Head's blade dragging across metal in Silent Hill 2. But there's a fine line between disconcerting and annoying, and this goes back and forth across the line continuously.
Really weird
despite all that's going on, i don't think there's actually very much going on here

There is a seen in the office where they interview James Spaders character for the position of the boss. They conclude that while he is insane, he is most likely a genius.
I am 100% sure this album is insane an 99% its genius.

I love shitty noise, but god this is just bad. Why anybody would agree to produce this is beyond me. This is the lowest rating I've ever given an album on BEA, but seriously, Royal Trux just aren't even trying here. Do yourself a favor and smoke some meth before you ever give this a try.
I like the first tracks use of a laser gun as an instrument.

I can't say that I fell in love with this right away, but there's definitely something going on here.
Nice harmonies and melodies.

It's funny - I like Royal Trux (I like Jon Spencer even more) but I don't think this is their best. It's alright, if you're into this kind of thing, but I thought they got more focused after this.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
