Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 83.7/100, a mean average of 83.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

Heaven or Las Vegas introduced me to the idea of the voice being used as an instrument. I don't typically listen to dreamy pop music, but goddammit, if you don't appreciate this voice after one listen, you have no heart. Every song on this album is so perfect that I can completely ignore the fact that the cover looks like a Windows 98 screensaver.

This album is PERFECTION. There is not a weak track, and at 10 songs/38 minutes, it never overstays its welcome. It's hard to categorize or even describe this album, it's just so unique thanks to Elizabeth Fraziers' beautiful voice, some creative vocal overdubs, Robin Guthrie's soaring and spacious guitar sound, and Simon Raymonde's driving and throbbing bass lines. The sound is great too, particularly the remastered editions.

I have an strong bias towards this album, and Cocteau twins in general but these could be some of the best and most underrated noises ever made

My favourite Cocteau twins album. Heaven or las Vegas, is a dreamy masterpiece. It's great that you can hardly understand the words because it's all about feel and atmosphere. It all works in the context of an album, but some songs such as, iceblink luck, work on their own. Lovley album then, as beautiful and as colourful as the record sleeve.

WOW is this better than Loveless?

While a-ha, Duran Duran, late ABBA, The Cure, and Kate Bush all brushed with a certain kind of sound, for me, this album "is it." Spectral, colorful, haunting, homely, adventurous, lively, reserved, sensual, all at the same time, crazy as that may sound.
