Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.8/100, a mean average of 79.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.4.

Insane album !
Personal favourite is Vapour Trail so not really extravagant. (Edited)
'60s psychedelia has been given a noise-rock treatment. Strong and dreamy melodies throughout are what makes it all work. A brilliant achievement and very enjoyable album. (Edited)
Back when shoegaze was just finding its feet, Ride were flying the flag for this new genre. Not quite as groundbreaking as what would come a year or so later, but a great effort by this band to discover a sound they were comfortable with. (Edited)
I moved to England with a girlfriend in 1999. We ended up living in Oxford. Her favourite band was Ride. Mine was Radiohead. Coincidentally both bands formed in Oxford around the same time in the 80s before becoming seminal 90s alt rock bands. While I liked what I had heard of Ride at the time it wasn’t until we broke up that I found the time to fully immerse myself in this album and boy was I taken by it! It’s superb and I wish we’d had the chance to bask in its glory together more than we did. My bad! (Edited)
Not always a fan of shoegaze but this is one of the better albums of the genre. There are times where I find the instrumental noise a bit grating, eg. on Dreams Burn Down, where most of the song is great but there's a phase of it where the background guitar is a bit too much for me. In A Different Place and especially Vapour Trail are excellent. (Edited)
