A thoroughly, and at times willfully, strange effort from Devendra Banhart and a motley cast of artists from his loose collective of freak folk artists, Cripple Crow is probably Banhart's strongest effort (though I'd give honorable mentions to What Will We Be and Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon). I appreciate the juxtaposition of rockers to introspective tunes such as "Santa Maria de Feira," my favorite track on the album.
