Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 25% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 73.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

His honest and direct approach offers us an idyllic, cheering yet mystifying experience.
"It's like finding home
In an old folk song
That you've never ever heard
Still you know every word
And for sure you can sing along"

There are certainly Spanish influences dotted all over this album. Devendra clearly enjoyed recording this album and his self-confidence leads to some interesting and unexpected guitar progressions. Liked it!

Nome singolare e aspetto singolare: il biglietto da visita di Devendra Banhart lascia bene intendere che la sua sarà una proposta musicale particolare quando non bizzarra.

My friend Gwynne burned me a copy of this album, which was how I first heard it. I wasn't all that impressed at first; I thought Devendra's singing style was just too off-putting and intentionally bizarre. But this album has grown on me a lot, and I have come to appreciate the unique place Devendra Banhart has carved for himself and others in the pantheon of American (or, in his case, Venezuelan-American) singer-songwriters as the head of the freak folk movement. The fact that he loves Townes Van Zandt is a huge point in his favor, as is his composition of the weird and wonderful "Will Is My Friend," with its inscrutable lyrics: "The lemon tree, it laughs at me / It's growing beautifully / The little veins it would unwind / And it'll wrap your whole in time."

If you ever wanna just chill out, put on this album. Devendra Banhart has since gone with more complicated albums, but I think this is where he's at his best. It's so simple, yet so great.
