Even though they were still very young, they'd progressed, broadened and matured quite noticeably. Well done to them. They'd expanded the tunes with more complex arrangements and bought in more instruments for a bigger sound. It's very melodic metal due to the vocals. It's a pretty good album.

Only one very good song , the rest is poor
After 2 run of the mill 90's alternative grunge albums, Neon Ballroom follows with and attempt to branch out.
The album is uneven with melodic pop songs intermixed with rehashed grunge songs.
I prefer the direction Silverchair is heading on songs like Emotion Sickness, Steam WIll Rise, Miss You Love. These all point to the direction they are heading on the fantastic Diorama that comes next
They still aren't able to leave their roots with blah rockers like Spawn Again, Satin Sheets, and Dearest Helpless
This is 2nd best Silverchair with 4 or 5 keeper songs.
I really like the song 'anthem for the year 2000'.

The album as a whole is a little unbalanced. The first three tracks rock. Black Tangled Heart, Miss You Love and Paint Pastel Princess are strong points on the album as well. Unfortunately, the other half of the album isn't very interesting. Despite their carbon-copying early on, I always saw this band as the bright spot amidst the post-grunge era that birthed the unbearable likes of Bush, Puddle of Mudd, Live, Smashmouth, Everclear, Limp Bizkit, Creed, Taproot, Nickelback, Pinback, etc.

The boys were trying... INstead of being carbon copies, they went for their own sound, and whiffed a bit. Mediocre.

Trails off at the end but has some classics early on. Emotion Sickness is amazing. Point Of View is great as well.
