Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.3/100, a mean average of 77.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

Stars is really the only song that pops out for me, the rest are fairly well written alternative rock songs.

This is one of those albums where upon listening, it’s obvious how many similar bands were formed in its wake. They perfected the heavy, shoegaze-y sound here. Chino Moreno is a big fan and with good reason. Just a really solid album.

Stars is the perfect 90's underground distorted-guitars rock song. The rest isn't nearly as good, but that would be difficult. A really fun listen - if you enjoy this check out Failure's Fantastic Planet.

Much better than any of Hum's other albums, this is the one to get. Hum are the masters of the loud/slow vibe. It's both heavy and pretty. The singing style is the perfect tone for the shimmering and distorted backdrops.

...Unfortunately those things "to be said" are bad things. So I'll shut up haha!

There's something to be said about really good space rock, with near spoken word singing and some of the most influential guitar playing on young bands during the 90's. And Hum is doing all that talking.
