Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. A lot of filler tracks with one real exceptional track that stands out from the rest. There isn't really a lot to get into with this album, it just feels very empty and skippable. The one positive is the trumpets which really carry the album and are very enjoyable on every song they appear. Overall, this is probably a record you can skip as it isn't very bad but also isn't very good so not worth exploring unless your a Chicago mega fan.
