Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

Puta viagem sem sair do lugar. Os solos de guitarra são precisos e a bateria, pra variar, perfeita.
2112 is fantastic, no doubt about that. However, I am not so positive about side 2 of the album. Yeah, they're OK songs, but nothing to be fascinated about. Sure, I have the perspective of 2020, which is not the same from the perspective of the late 70's and 80's where prog rock was not in its best shape and this album probably was important in that sense.
One of the best progressive rock albums of all time.
Great Progressive Rock album you must hear it to understand. Favorite tracks: 2112, Passage to Bangkok, Something For Nothing.
While Moving Pictures is definitely a more entertaining album, as a work of art, this one is their pinnacle.
Rush at their proggiest. Sounds a bit cheesy now but very much a product of the time.
Best power trio of the history!
Although I reviewed this album back in 2017 (when life was 'normal') by way of tribute to Neil Peart, I wanted to recognise his amazing skill as a lyricist. Because he was such an amazing drummer this other skill, pivotal to the overall listening experience, is often overlooked. To sit down with this vinyl gatefold and follow the lyrics as the vinyl spins is a truly enlightening and uplifting experience. Neil Peart was responsible for the greater percentage of lyrics on this album and many others. A true musical genius, never to be forgotten.
Neil Peart just passed away so it seemed like an ideal time to revisit this. The title track is one of the most epic songs ever written. The second side is surprisingly strong as well.
This is a really good prog/rock opera that in my opinion solidified Rush as one of the pioneers of prog rock/metal - at least how we know it today.
