I first heard Asheville, North Carolina, bluegrass trio Underhill Rose at the Albino Skunk Music Festival sometime soon after the release of this album. I'm not going to say it's groundbreaking, but this is affable bluegrass made by three women who are more than competent singers, musicians, and songwriters. The subject matter of this album struck me as representative of what most of my friends in the Asheville area were doing at the time: buying and fixing up their first homes, settling down with life partners, and, in the words of the title track, "looking for something real." I suppose, several years later, some of that remains true for me, too.
