I've been waiting for a...comprehensive collection such as this to detail the musical legacy of that most iconic of cities, Manchester. And Cherry Red Records with the aid of the Manchester District Music Archive have done a sterling job here. Starting with the advent of punk and the Buzzcocks Spiral Scratch EP to the dominance of Factory Records and the Hacienda over the musical landscape to the arrival of Britpop uberlords Oasis, the journey is a breathtaking, thrilling journey. Right now, it almost feels unbelievable that it happened or that only one city managed to revel in so much talent. But it did. Rave on.
