Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.5/100, a mean average of 72.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

How is this ranked lower than the awful ‘Discovery’ absolutely scandalous!
Interesting collection some highlights, New world rising and the more traditional style song arrangements on oh no not Susan, than its progress predecessor. Showdown not on the release I have was one of his best ever. Though I understand there was a bit of litigation from the overly precious Marvin Gaye estate due to a resemblance to grapevine. Can't see it myself.

ELO is just an amazing band, this album shows it

Underrated album, underrated Band
Honestly I’ve listened to this album a lot of times and I didn’t like a lot of it at first. Now I think it’s amazing through and through and believe it is their most underrated album. Oh No Not Susan and Bluebird is Dead have two of the most beautiful melodies I’ve ever heard. Showdown is one of the finest Beatlesesque songs ever written. So fine in fact that Lennon was compelled to call ELO the “sons of the Beatles.” Daybreaker is an instrumental that kicks ass for once, and ma-ma-ma belle is a fun and hard rocker with an awesome riff. A true hidden gem
This and Eldorado come across as transition pieces for the group, but both are still pretty great. It contains intricately composed tracks like Daybreaker and Dreaming of 4000 that are clear continuations of the vibe of their first 2 albums, while obvious single-choices like Showdown and Ma-Ma-Ma-Belle foreshadow the pop direction ELO would continue in throughout the 70s.
Im a little bias but I think this album is pretty good. One of their weaker pieces of work though. Oh No Not Susan and New World Rising are enjoyable deep-cuts if you want something other than Showdown or Ma-Ma-Ma Belle. Last track is an instrumental.
The first ELO-Album without Roy Wood. After Roy and some members had gone, the band had to be reassembled. In an early version, there is the album without the title Showdown. Showdown was released before as a Single. Best tracks except showdown are Ma Ma Belle an Dreaming of 4000.
