Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.4/100, a mean average of 68.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.7.

I rather quite like it, despite it's synth-pop sound and lack of actual strings. While no where near some of the group's legendary previous album's, this one has merits of its own, notably "Four Little Diamonds", and "Rock And Roll Is King".
Have to admit I was disappointed with this release, though secret messages has a fine melody and arrangements, skilfully done. The first single was shaking Stevens rock n roll. Four little diamonds had a massive production which I quite enjoyed, loser gone wild is unlistenable. To say this was trimmed from a double album to a single hints at the need for quality control by the record company, good job probably

I go the contrary direction on this album. After the dark and overproduced Time, this was a somewhat fun little breath of fresh air. In general, I appreciate the heaver, more serious albums, but in this case, this little diversion hits the spot.
Coming after "Time," this was an incredible disappointment.

in 1983 we where waiting for an new ELO-Album but something went wrong on this album, the production sounds very weak
