It's got a vibe of conscious hip hop, but he keeps himself in the gangsta character. Therefore he might be in favor with millenials who still buy into the gangsta act, or hipsters who lament the day bling became a thing; i.e. it is inoffensive and easily likable, and therefore I dislike it. His laid back style might raise an eyebrow on a first listen, but it gets old very fast, and tracks really blend into each other. The few experiments he does (asmr) go nowhere which is evidenced by the amount of artists you hear doing a whisper flow nowadays. Exactly, zero.
As weird as it is to say, this album got me back into rap. I was kind of bored of new hip hop before this album dropped, but 21 reignited my love for rap. Please give this album a chance. It doesn't have deep lyrics, and is not exactly what I'd call conscious hip hop, but it is a fucking fun album, that you can blast in the car and ad-lib along to. Best release yet. #Free21
21 Savage just came through with one of the best hip hop albums of the year. Next level beats, tight and smooth flow, and amazing features from Post Malone and Childish Gambino. Hyped for whatever he does next.
