In which Mickey Newbury expands the 20 second Dreamworks theme into a whole album... just kidding. Dreamworks came years later.

"After All These Years" is another gem Mickey Newbury, the Frank Sinatra of country/folk music. Unfortunately, like many of his classic albums, it is mostly unavailable on digital streaming platforms.

As the title suggests, After All These Years is awash with tenderness, sentimentality and nostalgia. Tired of Nashville and expecting to retire from the business, Newbury turns his sights to cultural icons like Cadillacs and the film "Rebel Without a Cause."

Newbury is a master songwriter with an incredible knack for making his songs sound like instant classics. The production adds a nice polish to the simple melodies and lyrics, making this work sound classy and timeless.

Essential.

Digitally available at Mickey Newbury's website.

All songs written or co-written by Mickey Newbury.

Track Pick: Truly Blue
Gems: Song of Sorrow, Let's Say Goodbye One More Time, That Was The Way It Was Then, Catcher in the Rye
