Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 70.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

I can listen to kuiama and from the sun to the world. Only leaves two other lengthy prog tracks and roll over Beethoven which I can't really enjoy. Kuiama has a lovely classical interlude with a astoundingly good violin solo and at times hints at brilliance.

I really think this album deserves to be ranked much higher in the ELO canon. It's challenging compared to more pop oriented ELO albums, but rewarding as well.

This is a fantastic record, and I don't really understand how it's the lowest-ranked of ELO's original-run studio albums. It puts on display an ELO at their most uncompromising; the orchestral elements are used less as enhancements for pop songs and more to imbue an explicit classical music influence in the tracks, with all 5 of them running (basically) 7 minutes or more. The structures of most songs also follow a very classical-style form. 'Mama' is one of the first displays of Jeff Lynne's true genius as a songwriter, and while 'Roll Over Beethoven', a mashup of the Chuck Berry classic with components of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, sounds like it should be nothing more than a novelty, it is executed so perfectly that I'm inclined to call it one of music's all time greatest cover songs.

This album is really underrated, I love the last track "kuiama" , this is the only ELO Album with a real message!
