Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.2/100, a mean average of 71.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

I know they will go on to make much better albums, but this sounds like the soundtrack to a bad B-Movie.

There's some real innovation originality and beauty on here. Whisper in the night is gorgeous Roy wood song. First movement is entertaining. Mr radio has a curious appeal. 10538 is a classic Some I skipped forever more after first listen. Battle of marston moor, queen of the hours etc.

A bit underrated. Very good mix of rock or even pop rock melodies and the symphonic elements. Catching attention record.

Surprisingly strong and intriguing debut. Very different sound to most ELO albums, with Wood's classical influence apparent. 10538 Overture is the standout, and one of ELO's finest songs. The beautiful Whisper in the Night, and the Classical Gas-esque 1st Movement are also stellar.
