Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. Graham Parker was seriously overrated back in the day so climbing through his discography now can be a bit of a disappointment. After the corny opera with the hideous album art that was "Howlin Wind" and the big band I-thought-this-was-supposed-to-be-punk-ism of "Heat Treatment", I was relieved to find that that the Parker album with the meekest reputation was much grittier and ultimately more satisfying than its two predecessors.
