Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 24% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.7/100, a mean average of 75.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 8.4.

Phantastic! Love this band and everything they do. They are a treat to see live because of Sarah Barthel's fun electric stage presence. Been looking forward to this album since last summer. Mister Impossible and Into Happiness were fun seeing live. Can't wait till I see them again cuz Dear God would make a great concert "banger". Such a funky catchy AF song. Ceremony is easily their best closing song. Only complaint is that it needed one more track because the album is a bit short.
This is their most approachable album yet - As their more buttoned-up / electro-pop side is certainly given the spotlight on this album. But still - Ceremony delivers on a wide scope.
The melodic & radio-ready sound is at its peak on this project with Dear God - super clean and unvaried drums, & light pop-synths, lead by bright, repetitive vocals. Their deeper cuts are some of my favorite moments, and they really amplify their pre-established surreal and trippy sound. Take News Today & Gaunt Kids - Very eerie, whispery and distorted vocals over a hazy soundscape. Although - both of these songs felt anti-climactic - both have an interesting buildup that just leads to… nothing. With exception to Ceremony? That is a complete catastrophic, distorted, K-Hole of an experience the ending on that song is? Amazing - Amazing… Moments like this are why I have a hard time fully siding with those who say they lost their edge. This is brilliant. Call me a Stan. I’ll take it
Really the only low moments are the tracks Pedestal & Glowing - Sarah’s voice is BEAUTIFUL - especially over the airy pianos on Glowing. I felt like they fell flat - just uninteresting overall. And I’m not saying these songs are bad - by any means - just in comparison to the other tracks - it's not at the level.
There’s no debate that Ceremony is indeed more agreeable, has more mass appeal. However - I do like this album quite a bit - Am I blown away? No - Did they introduce a new progressive sound? No - my take is, while they continue to widen their spectrum of sound they do a good job at representing the entire spectrum. Even at their poppiest / easiest to digest songs - there is still a sense of artistry.
8/10
FAVORITE: CEREMONY / MISTER IMPOSSIBLE / NEWS TODAY / INTO HAPPINESS

Solid album that drops off a bit at the end. Nothing really shines through as a major "banger" though, just a collection of good songs consistent with their historic sound.
Favorite Tracks: Dear God, In A Spiral, Pedestal
