Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. "Róisín Machine" starts as mellow but solid house album, Deep basslines and slow undulating beats. Suddenly, it breaks out into full groove on the last two tracks. "Narcissus" is driving track about trying force someone into being the best version of themselves. "Jealousy" is a full strut of obsession with its chirping synths and thumping base. I wish more of the album had songs like this.
My favourite of this year's set of 80s style throwback albums. The modern twist on 80s disco aesthetics is so intoxicating, especially on some of the longer cuts on the regular album and the extended versions on the deluxe edition. The vocals are mixed in pretty much perfectly to flow with the repetitive instrumentals and the vocals almost always match the mood of the track, whether it's the more abstract lyrics on 'Simulation' or the more personal ones on 'Murphy's law'. The basslines here really hit, making for addictive tracks that I feel like I could listen to forever, I think this makes me lean towards the extended takes on the deluxe version of the album which do away with some of the weaker tracks and give the best ones the full space to breath. The album really goes out with a bang. The mix of the strings and bass at the start of 'Narcissus' are so exhilarating and become more so when the multi tracked vocals enter but it's one upped by closer 'Jealousy' which features my favourite vocals across the project along with a killer guitar line.

Kind of drags in the middle, but it starts real strong and ends real strong. Even the weaker tracks are still perfectly good.

More of a straight forward modern disco dance album for her. Love her last three for how unique they were. This one is still really good though! Heavily inspired by disco and club music. It's a perfect album for those genres. Love Róisín's energy!
gorgeous, lush, and front to back grooves . essential dance music for dark times .
