Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 64.0/100, a mean average of 62.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 63.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

If this is the last album we ever get from The Cure--which, since it has been 15 years, seems somewhat likely, no matter how much Robert Smith teases new music--there would be worse fates. And to be sure, there are worse albums for artists to end on. In some ways, this feels like a continuation of their self-titled. More driving songs, cleaner production, less fuss overall. And again, while nothing here is outright terrible (although, "Freakshow" is a challenge), there's not a ton that stays. "Underneath the Stars" is the best track from The Cure since Wish, and might fit well on that album, but it carries a lot of this album--especially the formidable first half. If that's all the gas left in the tank, and though not for lack of trying on their part, I'd rather The Cure figure it out now rather than dilute their legacy--hard to do with so much great work behind you.
It's not a great album, but it's also not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I enjoyed Underneath The Stars, Hungry Ghost, Reasons Why and Only One.
How did we get here? Why are we here? Why is Robert Smith still making music? Why does he look like an overweight old lady now?
First song is alright... don't bother listening to the rest.
The Cure might just be my favorite band ever, but this is clearly their weakest album by far. Don't bother listening to it...
Not bad.
i think it's alright
Underneath The Stars would fit in on Disintegration, it's far too good to be on this album
To think this was supposed to be a double album. There is next to nothing here worth hearing! It's really sad to hear an album like this from one of the bands I used to love and who got me into music.
