Old 97's are the pop side of alternative country, and they were never poppier and more tuneful than on Fight Songs, my original #1 album of 1999. The songs come shooting right out of the gate, great singalong anthems one after another: Jagged / Lonely Holiday / Oppenheimer / Indefinitely, before slowing down a bit in the middle.
The Old 97's have yet to make a bad album, but their best one is arguably this, their 4th of 7 so far.
