It's been a few years since Tori Amos made a record I really liked. But Night of Hunters has a lot going it for it from the outset. Deutsche Grammophon commissioned the album as a song cycle that would draw from classical works from the last 400 years. So Amos wrote news songs that are essentially variations on themes from existing classical works. There is purportedly a narrative thread, but it's proven difficult to tease out. All of this is to say that this is, in many ways, very different from anything she's ever done. But it definitely still sounds like her. Bonus fun fact: Amos' daughter Natasha sings on a few tracks. I was pleasantly surprised to here that she has an amazing voice herself, though one that sounds entirely different from Amos.

like the idea of this album. I like that Tori Amos used classical pieces of music as background and inspiration for this album. And the arrangements in this sound really good. The only problem is, it gets a little slow at times. It’s all good, but not much of it stood out to me. Not much of it made me go “Wow, this is a good song." It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great, and that’s basically this album in a nutshell. Not bad, but not great. It’s worth giving a listen though, perhaps other people will like it more than I did.
A dissapointming experiment, with trying to make a classic music. Possibly the most dull record I've heard from Tori. It's not without grace or a totally failure, but it ain't that solid ether.
