Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.6/100, a mean average of 71.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

'Two Ribbons' feels a little more grown up while still holding on to the playfulness that made previous album 'I'm All Ears' so irresistible. Full of high energy bangers, conceptual songwriting and bold production, it shows Let's Eat Grandma as a duo to continue to keep a close eye on as they evolve within the UK electropop scene.

I'm a LEG fan and I think this is there best album yet! The production is insanely good and clean. Beautifully textured and layered sounds. Still exploring and uncovering things but expect I will come back to write more when it ends up near the top of my end of year list.

Probably the most striking thing about the growth of LEG's music is not only how well the song's managed to evoke these more high concept subjects & imagery (often multiply juxtaposed in a single track) but also perfectly mirroring the outlook of their own age- from the vivid childlike fairy-tale and homespun feel of their first album to the more ambitious PC-and-classic-disco inspired rush of teenage euphoria of I'm All Ears to the more relaxed balladry found here from the new-young adults experiencing their first brush with mortality and lost lifelong connections.
In comparison to the much more colorful mix of styles and often massive scope of I'm All Ears, this definitely feels like their chilling-by-the-lake release, an approporiate step to the side dealing with more complicated and less boisterous emotions this time around. There's still some echoes of that previous record (the giant neon wonderwhirl synthpop of Falling Into Me is stripped down to the more jazzy and frothy Hall of Mirrors), but for the most part this is more subdued and mature if not quite as memorable on the music front. Two Ribbons is still best when it's riding the heavy synths, be it the pulsing Leviation or the lovely & more temperate ballad of the closing title track (where Jenny's now pretty soaring vocals get their moment in the sun), the first half greatly outshines the weird detours of the second, where they seem to have grown a fondness for (dear Jasedgawd) sappy 90s adult contemporary balladry. One weird thing is that for all the talks of a more fractured relationship, this album doesn't really feel too divided in terms of the POV, the last album it felt like they were growing into their own distinct musical identities (Rosa the more cheeky and aggresively experimental of the two, Jenny the more soulful ballader- their own Lennon-McCartney dynamic of sorts) but here that feels less so despite more of the latter's vocal solos this time around.
It's solid, a more relaxed and cooly atmospheric record even as they're dealing with more difficult adult themes, even if all it still feels a little unfinished like it's missing that key track or two to either shoot it over the moon or tie everything together. Still quite lovely when it's not trying to imitate Paula Cole.

Not quite as radical as its predecessor, but Two Ribbons has a lot of really fun songs on it honestly. Happy New Year, Insect Loop and Strange Conversations are especially nice listens, but maybe better in isolation that contextualised by the album. There's no "Donnie Darko" here.
A really nice surprise, full of smooth and almost chilled out sounds, like the Beach House album or Royksopp's album that also came out the same day. Not spiky or angry, but sweet and reflective. A grower.
