Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.2/100, a mean average of 65.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 65.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.9.

It’s Interpol. You know what you’re going to get now. I’m searching this new release for a standout track but nothing’s rising above the sludge. The sludge is generally the sort of sludge you can bury yourself in though, I’ll give it that.

Easily Interpol's weakest album, at least in a while, but it's not for lack of ideas. That said, the album is best when it sounds like Turn on the Bright Lights or Antics, leaning hard into space and atmosphere. But even then, the strongest cuts here struggle to go toe-to-toe with even the middling tracks on previous records.
Interpol have settled more comfortably into their sound; The Other Side Of Make-Believe is just as boring as Marauder, but it sounds like their having fun with it this time around. While they've given up on making anything that could be described as art, there is some fun to be had in the fresher, lighter sound of this new release - at least this time around it sounds like all the members of the band like each other.
