Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 4% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 79.5/100, a mean average of 78.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.8/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 15.2.

One of my favourite bands of all time, Interpol's melancholic sound is something I go back and back for. Their First album is among the greatest albums of all time according to me.
My personal 'Interpol' ranking albums :
1- Antics (2004) => 84
2- Turn on the Bright Lights (2002) => 80,5
3- Our Love to Admire (2007) => 79,1
4- El Pintor (2014) => 77
5- Interpol (2010) => 76
6- The Other Side of Make-Believe (2022) => 75,5
7- Marauder (2018) => 74,6
A lot of very good songs (36 tracks rated 80 or more), but if I had to create my 'Very Best of Interpol', it would be made of 13 tracks (that i rated 85+) :
Obstacle 1 (2002) => 90
PDA (2002) => 85
Next Exit (2004) => 85
Evil (2004) => 95
Narc (2004) => 85
Take You on a Cruise (2004) => 85
Slow Hands (2004) => 90
Not Even Jail (2004) => 85
Public Pervert (2004) => 85
Pioneer to the Falls (2007) => 85
No I in Threesome (2007) => 85
The Heinrich Maneuver (2007) => 90
All the Rage Back Home (2014) => 85
Very good band. They have a unique sound which is brilliant.
Only got TOTBL about Mar 18 and just followed up with Antics - both are brilliant. I love their vibe - I also love drawl vocals and don't care if the songs are similar. Just got Our Love To Admire - so if that lands fine then they move into my top all time bands.

I like Interpol. Antics is an album that I return to quite often and I can understand the plaudits for TotBL. But for those who comment on the songs all blending into one, I think it largely comes to down to a formulaic approach to song writing and a vocalist who, despite being unique and magnetic, is actually quite limited and lacks the variety of truly great front-men.

Turn on the Bright Lights is a masterpiece in Indie Music. Their other albums have really great tracks, but they never hit the consistency like they do on their debut.

Dark in a good way, the new albums may be boring, depressing and scary. But TOTBL was a masterpiece.
Obstinate band in a good way, their first album will always be one of the best of all time.
Their first two albums, Turn on the Bright Lights was a classic (4/5) and Antics was more than a worthy follow-up (3/5) but man they really reek of trying to pull the same chord on us. Sure they've become more of dance-punk band utilizing more electronic flares in their music, but it's not that big of a change and honestly they do it pretty boringly.

I can see the influence of Joy Division, but while Interpol is talented, and create an interesting sound, I don't find myself listening to them again and again. Their songs all start to bleed together...
