Red was always my favourite colour but, in recent years, I have grown to prefer green. That is the nature of the conundrum. Some prefer one colour; others prefer another; yet we can all enjoy the music even if we do not share the same preferences.
The film from which this music comes bears little resemblance to the biblical commentary which it partially represents. You may like the original; you may prefer the original. You may like neither or both.
The music is excellent. You should hear it, whether or not you like the movie. It is that good!
Such an unusual album that showcases Gabriel's compositional chops outside the rock spectrum. It is a success.

A wonderful combination of east and west music
gorgeous isn't it. a wondrous blend of arabic, turkish, kurdish, armenian and african folk music set to an ambient pace. i'd go as far to say that it's probably one of the best (if not the best) records from the new age genre. a brilliant collaboration from artists all over the globe.
The tone of this album is a melancholic and meditational mixture of Western and Eastern existentialism allied with a sense of Christian piety and exotic detachment. Gabriel's masterpiece is first and foremost an ethereal and evocative study in 'sound' which acts as a kind of catalyst for the semiotic interpretation of each of the individual 21 pieces on the album.
