THE BEST ALBUM

ESSENTIAL

Carter and Ralph Stanley are probably the most significant bluegrass band after Flatt and Scruggs and Bill Monroe. They continue to influence musicians with their incredible lonesome harmonies. The brothers infused their Appalachian folk music with the blues overdrive of Monroe and the innovative banjo picking of Flatt and Scruggs.

But Carter Stanley was incredibly talented. His voice is probably the best ever heard in bluegrass and his songwriting would make Hank Williams blush. Simple songs about faith and heartbreak fill every LP from the Stanley Brothers.

This debut from King came off the heels of the Stanley Brothers' excellent Mercury sessions. They are in top form and some of their finest songs are here, mixed with other songs and instrumentals from similar sessions.

Condensed to a 7" Single:
A-Side: Think of What You've Done
B-Side: Clinch Mountain Backstep
