This is a strange compilation album. For one thing, The March Violets never had a proper full-length album in the 80's, only two compilation albums. And this one was released just a year after the previous one. In the middle of this, the band was transitioning from harder goth to a more pop sound. Lead vocalist Simon Denbigh also had left the band, although 5 of the songs on this album still have him on lead. Later, the band would have two songs on the "Some Kind of Wonderful" soundtrack, but nothing here sounds as pop as those songs do. Overall, this isn't a bad album, but it does feel like several random tracks thrown together. "Snake Dance" is the best one, but it is an extended version of something that doesn't really need extended. I would just stick with the "Natural History" album if you want goth, or "Some Kind of Wonderful" if you want pop.
