Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 78.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.9.

This album is full of great songs and all of them have some of the best lyrics I have heard on a pop album. I don't hear much hype around this album and I am completely shocked by this as this record is amazing. There are so many brilliant pop songs all of which are intelligent and are multi-layered and give you a lot to explore. Also, it is a bit more chill compared to other pop records and allows for you to really enjoy the music as it unfolds. The vocal partnership is genius as well and I love the contrast between the male and female vocal that makes this record unique. The instrumentation varies from track to track as well and the quality of music is incredible. This is a fantastic album and I implore that you listen to this record if you haven't already.

An absolutely wonderful 80s sophistipop album that totally encapsulates the music of the mid-80s. Great album

An excellent mid eighties pop/soft rock album that offered an alternative to a lot of the purely synth led bands/artists of the era. Prefab Sprout were excellent musicians but also offered a unique harmony between the male and females vocals of Paddy McAloon and Wendy Smith. 'When Love Breaks Down' and 'Appetite' are particular favourites of mine.

There are one or two average songs here but also some of Prefab Sprouts best work. Bonnie, Appetite and When Love Breaks Down are good examples, but my favourite is Horsin’ Around.

Few more pleasant ways of spending 45 minutes than listening too Steve McQueen. Smooth sailing indi pop that reminds me a bit of The Beautiful South.

I feel like I should explain my last comment.

When most people people think of emotional 80's music, their mind usually jumps to The Smiths. And while I really enjoy The Smiths, their music, and their lyrics, I don't feel like they're describing problems I've had or things I've thunk, so it's hard for me to get that instant personal connection so many others have when they can so quickly relate the lyrics back to their own experience.

On the other hand, Prefab Sprout so eloquently describe EVERYTHING I've thought and felt that it becomes overwhelmingly emotional for me to listen to the music. It's here I've found that personal connection that elevates it from "this music is excellent" to "listening to this is a truly incredible one-of-a-kind experience."

I'm so glad I've found this album, and I'm sure my love for it can only grow over time.
