Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 85.0/100, a mean average of 83.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.1.

There are some iconic songs on this album like Cloudbusting and Hounds Of Love which are very good, but I did think some of the songs dragged on a bit. There is a general tendency for the songs to be long which I didn't like so much. I think I prefer the Kick Inside album to this one. Kate Bush kind of went out of fashion in the 1980's and then she came back into fashion later on in her career. She has always gone for the experimental type of music and sometimes it works and sometimes not. On the whole this is pretty good and even the Irish jig song seems to work out ok. Its shows that this is no. 1 of 1985 which surprises me a bit, but it would be in my top 20 of that year.

How about 1997 edition with 6 Bonus Tracks? Are those listed and rated somewhere?

It is easy to love side one, which is a line up of beautiful, catchy songs. Whether or not you love the album as a whole depends on what you think of the song cycle on side two. For me, it is mesmerising. WHAT SAY YOU GOOD PEOPLE?

I think I prefer "The Dreaming" over this. Her previous record felt more cohesive and visionary. This one is okay, but it falls short on so many ends. Besides "Running Up That Hill", my second favorite is definitely "The Big Sky".

Kate Bush demonstrates loads of flare on what is her most engaging and enjoyable record she has ever put out. This is primarily due to the exceptional first half which is full of some stunning songs. The music is also well layered and it has a lot of depth behind it due to Kate Bush's desire to experiment with more instrumentation. This makes for an enthralling listen that remains exciting even on the slower second half. She is not scared to mix up her style either with there being some unique tracks on here, such as Jig Of Life, which are always exciting to come back to as they give the music an additional edge and a bit more character. Her vocal is fantastic as well as she demonstrates both her voices power but also its beauty on here. Overall, this is an elite record that is Kate Bush's most exciting and enjoyable to listen to.

Decent. First 5 tracks are awesome, then it's mostly downhill from there. Can see why it's highly rated but there are few too many duds for me to make it a great album (Dreams of Sheep, Hello Earth, Under Ice).
