Mike Rutherford, long-time guitar player for Genesis, started his own band to reasonable pop success. Recruiting fine vocalists Paul Young and Paul Carrack, the Mike+ debut storms out with two pop gems and as a whole is a fine pop album for the guitarist/bassist, even culling an unused Genesis song ("a call to arms") and making it his own.

Still super safe pop-rock, but this surpasses what Phil Collins was doing at this point.

This is a good band and a great sideline for Mike Rutherford. Inspired to have two vocalists of such calibre and both compliment each other brilliantly. Paul Young could easily be the lead in a band say like Foreigner. Paul Carrack has a soulful voice and as Phil Collins once said, he could sing a telephone directory and make it sound brilliant. And Mike can write a great pop/rock song. A Call To Arms is a throwaway Genesis tune that Mike took on. A grossly underrated offering on this platform.
