The cover art on this album might have you thinking this is an English paisley-pop band who just couldn't afford color printing, but no, they're actually a fairly ordinary-sounding garage-pop band made up of college kids who formed in Fairfield, Iowa in 1967 or so. If you know that, you can be more prepared for what you'll hear, which is... nothing special, nor did the band produce any famous people who went on to huge careers in the music biz. (They're also known as just "The Reign," but are not to be confused with Seattle's NWSL pro soccer team.) It's a fake-live album, which is always fun, but more importantly its last track is entitled "Baby Let Me Bang Your Box," which is probably why people became so interested in it later on. (That track has a fairly wild lead-guitar break too, though it only lasts about 15 seconds.) Despite this level of defiance in the face of the sort of sexually-repressive censorship that might have applied here if the album were on a major label, or any label for that matter, Fairfield itself remained a fairly sleepy farm community right up until the 1990s, when followers of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi decided to start a university there as well as a whole new "Vedic City" just north of town. (That's another story though, and presumably unrelated.) Anyway, so few copies of this album were pressed that in recent years, hardly any are known to still exist — so if you have one in decent condition, it could be worth up to $3,500.00, give or take. Bang that box, baby!
