Surfer Girl was a leap forward and this is a stumble backward
It says something for the lack of respect for the full length LP as an art form in 1963 that The Beach Boys (or Capitol Records) could get away with such a tacky concept – recycling four songs from previous albums and quickly recording eight new ones to create a hastily constructed car-themed album.
The beach boys car album. It's extremely throwaway but fun. It's corny as hell, but there are good moments. Spirit of America, is lovely, the title track is great,but, be true to your school, is so square, can you imagine the Rolling Stones singing it, no chance. So-so.
A rather weak album. Skip it.
