Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 60.0/100, a mean average of 58.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 58.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 23.3.

Bringing in Ron Nevison to produce this after a couple of mediocre records did yield some improvement. It could be argued that the keyboards augmenting this record play to the style of 80's Hard Rock that was exploding all over the charts but Nevison did get better songs out of Gene. This is the only KISS album in the second half of the 80's that Gene really contributed consistently good...even great songs. That makes this one of my favorite KISS albums. The lead Single "Crazy Crazy Nights" may be their best eighties song even though it reeks of Seventies era KISS. Overall a solid effort by all involved however it ironically contains one of the few bad Paul Stanley songs ever. "Bang, Bang You." Really?

KISS are indeed the sort of band that can only really be a guilty pleasure. Their early 70s simple rock gave us a number of genuine classic feel-good songs like Cold Gin, Rock n Roll All Night, Deuce, Black Diamond, Detroit Rock City, Strutter etc. But their 80s stuff and beyond is generally puerile yet catchy teenage pop rock and nothing more. I loved Crazy Nights as a 13 yr old and then liked it a little less year after year. I mean 'Bang Bang You'??? Really??? Paul can sing. There's some catchy tunes but there's absolutely nothing enduring about this type of music.

The Paul Stanley songs, crazy, crazy nights, reason to live, turn on the night, i'll fight hell to hold you, and, my way, are easily the best songs, although, hell or high water, is okay, the rest though, is awful. Is coconut a secret Kiss fan? In denial, maybe? He makes derogatory comments on every Kiss album. Why would you do that if you hated them so much? Why would you bother? I actually agree with a lot of what he says, but to me, Kiss are a guilty pleasure, maybe they are to him too?
