Even though GANGgajang would form in New South Wales the DNA for this album is firmly rooted in Mark Callaghans formative years attending High School in south east Queensland namely the sleepy coastal cane growing town of Bundaberg
The iconic “Sounds Of Then (This Is Australia)” has gone on to become something of an unofficial Australian anthem (along with “Your The Voice” and “Horses”) appearing in countless shows and commercial’s with its referencing of cane and humidity a clear nod to Bundaberg. “Ambulance Men” continues the theme (the ambulance service would sell fund raising raffel tickets on Bundaberg’s Main Street every Saturday morning which I remember well as a kid growing up) as does “To The North”
For very personal reasons I adore this album and it alway takes me make to a time of innocence, youth and family
