Different from a lot of hip hop acts, this is an actual band with several musicians and vocalists, and as a result the album has a lot of interesting musical ideas with minimal samples. The lead singer and songwriter, known as Speech, is also the producer and he has gathered these ideas into a very musically cohesive sounding album, which to me sounds good all the way through. Even when they get more experimental on "Children Play With Earth" the result is quite intriguing. A well rounded and enjoyable album.

Pretty much agree with everyone here. The good songs are REALLY GOOD, the other ones fall a bit short. The best songs are Tennessee, People Everyday, and Mr. Wendal. Listen to the People Everyday Metamorphosis Mix, it's a bit fresher than the original (since a lot of people are complaining about it being dated).
Given the era that this album came out in, this album was quite refreshing. however it musically backing is not robust enough to carry it.

Ok album. Best 10 songs average is 76,3/100 and the album can get ok 75/100. Not exactly my taste. Best songs are "Mr. Wendal" and "Tennessee" both ok. All other songs ok or below-average.

A nice record, it sounds a bit dated now. Considering what hip-hop has devolved into that's not a bad thing.

Some of this hasn't dated quite so well. Even at the time it sounded a little self-conscious but all the best moments still sound great.

Indeed - the antithesis of gangsta rap, but that's not saying that NWA, Ice T or EPMD were bad - they were fantastic. But this is great as well.
