Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.6.

Although his main band Jellyfish is not unfamiliar to me. But what a pleasant surprise this album is: this is a great powerpop album and the songwriter's skills of this guy are just all over the place. All tracks are great.

Delivered by ex-Jellyfish guitarist Jason Falkner, this debut album contains some of the best power pop tunes of the 1990's. Falkner never managed to break into the mainstream, which is a shame because his music is quite accessible. Listen to "She Goes To Bed" for proof.

First solo work by the prolific Falkner, who also appeared in the Greys and TV Eyes, among others—and also his best work to date. Falkner wrote, sang, and played just about everything on this record, and the songs are terrific and the production is immaculate. Everything is great here, but particular highlights include the insidiously catchy “I Live,” the bouncy harmonics of “I Go Astray,” and the driving, haunting “Don't Show Me Heaven.” At present, Falkner’s still plugging away, producing sparkling, original power pop, and still not getting nearly the attention he deserves. After I heard this record, I wanted to hear _everything_ he did.
