Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.8/100, a mean average of 70.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.1.

Came across this album while researching Dylan covers. Loving 'You Ain't Going Nowhere' so much, I've added the Counting Crows version into my top 100 Dylan covers chart......ohh wee, we're gonna fly, down into the easy chair!
This is pretty much a cover album of songs that Counting Crows has been playing live forever.
I have this weird love-hate relationship with Counting Crows. Some of their stuff I really do enjoy. “August And Everything After" was a great album and there are a few other songs here and there that I enjoy, but just about everything else they’ve done has just left me with this bland feeling. This album is one entire bland feeling. Not to say that this music is necessarily bad, it isn’t, but it certainly isn’t anything special. After listening to this album, my initial reaction was that this sounded very typical Counting Crows. Essentially, we’ve heard it all before. One of the issues bands have once they’ve seemingly passed their prime is relying on what made them famous before. The bands that continue to succeed after they’ve had their big hits are the ones who aren’t afraid to do something a little different, but this album is not that. There’s a cover of the Pure Prairie League song “Amie" that exemplifies this best. It’s almost an exact replica of the song, rather than a unique take on the song, which makes for a boring cover. It’s been done before. That probably best sums up this album. It’s all been done before.
