Only three years after the excellent New Gold Dream, the Simpletons goes from great new romantic synth pop to a more mature, bland adult rock for a quite boring album.

This album is powerful from start to finish with strong messages that are of relationships and politics. It still holds up today. This was one of the first albums I got into growing up and loved it. Their best album is New Gold Dream and recommend it highly.
Not a weak song on this album with all songs scoring above 80. The classics for me are the title track, sanctify yourself and All the things she said. This album for me is an 88.
Excellent mid eighties synth rock album featuring some classic tracks. I like all the music on this album, difficult to pick out favourites. I always think that this was an immediate follow on from 'Don't You Forget About Me', a track which I don't believe was actually featured originally on any album other than later compilations. It would have sat well on this album.
Very good and underrated album. Simple minds at the peak of their success and full of confidence. Still sounds great today. Very good record.
Got this for Christmas '85 and it spent a lot of time that winter in my walkman. I'm not sure I understand those who would criticize this as a sellout. When was Simple Minds anything ground-breaking? The songs here sound big and mostly they deliver the goods. "Come A Long Way" is the perfect album-closer.
Solid album. Ghost Dancing and Oh Jungleland are my favorites

rufus hit the spot. i don't like this one because it's a bit too slick. the songs just don't click on me. alive and kicking is great poprock but it feels so overheard to me.
Remember this one back in my schooldays 'Ghost Dancing'one of my first singles when I started collecting singles seriously had this on cassette at the time for me 80's Walkman great times top album favs here Once Upon a Time,Alive & Kicking,Ghost Dancing
